Reverend Leon Campbell Jr. is a force of heart, wisdom, and creative spirit. As Director of the Youth & Family Ministry at Agape International Spiritual Center since 2004, he has shaped one of the largest spiritual youth communities in the United States, inspiring over a thousand children each month. A minister, artist, poet, and youth mentor, Leon blends creativity, spirituality, and service in ways that leave a lasting impact on everyone he meets.
But Leon is so much more than his title. He’s the founder of powerful initiatives like Agape’s eCamp, the Artist-in-Residence program, and the Young Men’s Mentoring Program. He’s also the author of Simple Mysticism: Seeing the Divine Everywhere and in Everything, a guide to embracing awe, connection, and the beauty of life’s simplest truths. Through his work, he invites people of all ages to appreciate themselves deeply, live in wonder, and connect more meaningfully with one another.
Leon’s path has been anything but ordinary. Growing up in the Chicago housing projects, he heard a guiding inner voice at just 12 years old, a voice that would lead him through corporate success, personal transformation, and ultimately, to a life devoted to uplifting others. Along the way, he’s mentored thousands of children, many without father figures, teaching them to see their own magnificence and worth.
Whether he’s speaking to a crowd, leading a phone-free youth camp, or looking a child in the eye to let them know they’re seen, Leon radiates presence, compassion, and truth. He calls himself “the simple preacher,” believing that love, connection, and self-appreciation are the most powerful tools we have to transform the world.
Wisdom from Rev. Leon
“When was the last time you beheld the beauty that you are, the magnificent, the wackiness that you are?”
“If I’m not in awe, then I don’t think I’m living.”
“The simpler you are, the deeper you are.”
“They don’t care about your history or your degrees—what they want to know is, can I trust you? Do you love me? Am I seen? Am I heard?”
“Know that life is an inside job.”
“Our ability to change, our ability to laugh at ourselves, our ability to not stay the same, that’s what makes us wonderful.”
“If you look long enough, it shall appear, it’s been here all the time, waiting for you to recognise it.”
